Building a Framework for Biodiversity Conservation in the Pacific

Under a project jointly commissioned by the Secretariat for the Pacific Regional Environment (SPREP) and the Pacific Islands Roundtable for Nature Conservation in the Pacific Islands, TierraMar led an extensive regional process to develop the Pacific Framework for Nature Conservation and Protected Areas 2014-2020 This required a comprehensive review of the 2008 – 2012 regional Action Strategy for Nature Conservation and Protected Areas. The review informed the development of the regional Framework for Nature Conservation and Protected Areas 2015-2020. The Framework provides guidance to Pacific Island countries are territories (PICTs), regional organisations, NGOs, the international donor community and partners on achieving the global 2020 Aichi Biodiversity Targets of the Convention on Biological Diversity. It also provides conservation practitioners with guidance on recognised best practices for conservation in the region and was adopted at the 9th Pacific Conference on Nature Conservation and Protected Areas in the Pacific held in Suva Fiji, December 2013.
