Project Spotlight: SeaNET Indonesia

Conservation works best when it involves everyone. Community-led initiatives are not only longer-lasting but vastly more affordable. This leads to the fastest outcomes for wildlife conservation, while creating measurable improvements in the quality of life for local people.

The islands of the eastern Arafura Sea are some of the poorest places on Earth. In less than 2 years, a project we led with the islanders, doubled their income and eradicated endangered species bycatch. The program has since been extended by the Indonesian government.
